A recurring theme among my clients this past week or two has been wanting to feel more peace in their lives and businesses. It’s pretty hard to be the person you need to be to run and grow a truly successful business when you’re feeling scared and overwhelmed. So today I would like to share my favorite peace tool with you. It has helped me immensely over the years both personally and professionally. And using it could be one of the best gifts you give yourself during this hectic holiday season!

I originally wrote this article back in January of 2012. I have had many more personal crises in the two years since, including two family suicides, two other family deaths, a messy “divorce,”, and ex-communication by my own children. This tool has helped me through it all!

It’s a little difficult to write this article, but I want to be authentic with you, and if my story helps even one of you in some way, I’m glad to share it.

My 16-year old son was brutally attacked on New Year’s Eve. His beautiful face was severely beaten, and it is still swollen and bruised today. We spent Monday at the Emergency Room, where we learned that, thankfully, no bones were broken. There is much healing to be done, both physically and emotionally.

Even five years ago this situation would have put me over the edge. Thankfully, because of the personal growth work I’ve done, and the many “tools” at my disposal, I am moving through it in an entirely new way.

I’d like to share a tool with you that is helping me through this. I had been using it for an entirely different reason, but it helped just the same. It’s one of my favorite pieces from A Course in Miracles:

“I must have decided wrongly, because I am not at peace.
I made the decision myself, but I can also decide otherwise.
I want to decide otherwise, because I want to be at peace.
I do not feel guilty, because the Holy Spirit will undo all the consequences of my wrong decision if I let him. I choose to let him, by allowing Him to decide for God for me.”

I had been studying this verse 3 times a day for another reason. Since New Year’s, I have been Debbie Delgadoreading it multiple times each day, and doing so has provided me with a foundation of peace through this turbulent situation. It reminds me that no matter what happens, I can still choose peace. And that peace is, like everything else, a decision. It is anchoring me to the Truth, which is often what we lose touch with when crises occur.

My reason for sharing this with you is this: I am constantly stressing with you the importance of your daily practices and using the tools I provide you in my articles, my workshops, and my coaching programs. And I know how easy it is to fall out of these practices. But they are critical for creating the kind of life and business you want. They are what can keep you sane when “terrible” things happen.

Some of you may think that highly conscious people like me no longer have to deal with life events and crises. Nothing could be further from the Truth. The difference is that, through all the work we’ve done on ourselves, all of the time, energy, and money we have invested in ourselves to learn from and work with the best teachers, we have different tools and ways of dealing with things than others.

I will come out of this stronger than I was before it. My son will come out of this “bigger” and stronger than he was before. My family is already growing stronger because of this event. And I have seen others at their best as they come forward to provide love and support.

How are you growing yourself so you can deal with the crises in your life and business?

Are you taking advantage of all the people, tools, and resources that have been showing themselves to you so you can grow stronger no matter what happens in your life?

Your Two-Week Action Plan

  1. Take stock of your own foundation of peace. Is it strong enough to withstand a crisis in your life or business?
  2. Examine your “daily practices.” Are you connecting to Truth daily? If not, “decide again.” Start them back up or incorporate some new ones.
  3. If this feels really important to you and you don’t want to do it alone, contact my lovely assistant, Kathy, to see if a conversation with me would help. I’m Ready for MY Foundation of Peace!
