How much attention are you paying to the environments you surround yourself with?

Do you know how important they are to your business?

The people and ideas you surround yourself with are critical to who you are being. Who you are being directly impacts the actions you take in your life and business. Those actions, in turn, create results in your life and business.

Have you ever returned home from an event or conference excited and inspired and full of new ideas only to settle back into your old routine and old results within a matter of days?

Here’s why.

When you were at the conference, you were in an environment filled with people, ideas, and experiences that inspired you to grow.

And then you went home to your old environment, and pretty much immediately went back to who you were before attending that event.

Does this pattern sound familiar?

Time to make some changes!

Here are three areas of environment you can change that will help you stay motivated, stay inspired, and support you in the changes you need to make to get the results you really want!

Your People Environment. Yeah, yeah, we’ve all heard that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. But have you ever actually done anything with that idea?

When was the last time you looked around you at the people in your life and asked yourself:

Do the people around me inspire me to grow, or do I keep myself small in order to fit in with them?
When I share my dreams for the future, do they respond through their own beliefs about what’s “realistic,” or do they truly believe and act as if anything is possible?
Are the people around me seeking growth or safety?

If you want more in your life and business you’ve got to grow your people environment to match what you want. And you have to consciously put yourself in people environments that support your growth.

What opportunity for doing this have you been resisting?

Your Learning Environment. What are you learning? And who are you learning it from?

One of my absolute favorite quotes is Eric Hoffer’s “In times of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.”

Has there ever been a time of more drastic change than we are living in right now?

Look around you. The people who are struggling are the ones who are failing to learn anything new. They keep using the same information and strategies they’ve been using for years, and they’re getting terrible results. Those old strategies and information no longer work in today’s world.

I spend time every day learning from those who are ahead of me in some area of their life or business. I invest time and money in learning from the best. Because I want the best.

What opportunity for learning have you been resisting?

Your Thinking Environment. This is a biggie. The thoughts that you think all day are either taking you in the direction of the results you want, or they are keeping you stuck where you are. As I work with my clients each day, their thoughts are often one of the biggest obstacles in creating what they want.

When was the last time you paid close attention to the environment in your head? Researchers have found that most people think pretty much the same thoughts every single day. And that doesn’t surprise me, and most people keep getting pretty much the same results in their lives and businesses every day!

Your thoughts need to be consistent with what you want. Just like the people in your life, they can either support you in the direction you want to go, or they can keep you stuck where you are.

In fact, it’s important that you answer the same questions about your thoughts as you did about the people in your life:

Do my thoughts inspire me to grow, or do they keep me small?
When I think about my dreams for the future, do I think about what I have been told is “realistic,” or do my thoughts reflect the belief that anything is possible?
Are my thoughts more about growth or safety?

The environment in your head is critical. Your thoughts create your emotions. Your emotions create your actions. And your actions create the results you get in your life and business.

What thoughts must you consciously choose in order to create what you want?

Let’s end here where we began:

Is your environment helping or hurting you?
